I must admit that this picture of a train is my favourite of my train pictures. It draws you in to the picture. I have been reading a book about photography and I have drawn upon what I have read to create this picture. In post processing I made the image bleaker than how it was originally shot. This has made the strong blue colour of the train and the painted yellow line on the platform stand out more.

Picture 58
Another train! This time in colour. I really liked the colours of the train and on the platform. When everything else is bleak and grey it is nice to see such vibrant colours.
Picture 57
A plate of macaroons. When I got home on Friday I was greeted by these lovely treats. I must admit though that taking picture of food or anything edible is really tricky. Get it wrong and the dish looks horrible. Lucky for me these macaroons were more tasty than my picture. Definite room for improvment on food shots.
Picture 56
As I commute to Chelmsford I see a lot of trains. This one passed by me whilst waiting at the station in Hythe. I like how the part of the train closest to the camera is blurred by the motion. This creates a real sense of movement in the picture.
Picture 55
I wanted a simple picture of kitchen utensils. As there were very limited colours in the shot I thought I could create some interest in the picture by converting to black and white and then from there creating a duo tone picture. I like how the two colours in this picture work together.
Picture 54
A shot of some love hearts. I wanted a background that would suit the love hearts and thought that the bokeh that the 50mm lens can produce would be suitable. I placed some lightsources behind the love hearts and shot the picture using a wide aperture.

Picture 52
A document of activities at home. Only a very small part of the picture is in focus. I've done this to try and guide the viewers attention to the opened bottle of nail varnish. There is also a slight tilt-shift effect in the picture created by the narrow focus plane. It gives the image a slight feeling of looking into a doll's house.

Somebody has been baking and it wasn't me. I did take a picture of this lovely butternut squash muffin though. The seeds on top really gives it a nice look and the paper gives it that café-feel.
Picture 50
My 50th picture. I've wanted to take a picture of these drinking choclate tins for some time. Used natural lighting from the living room windows.

Flower photography isn't something I'm really that interested in, but thought that I would give it a try. I think the biggest challenge is getting a composition that really shows off the flower. I have used a LED torch to light the rose. An ok picture of a rose, overall.

Nothing like the English countryside. The mist creating that etheral feel. I thought the two trees inthe foreground formed a nice pair. It is a shame there is a road running through the shot, but that is something that is unavoidable.
Picture 47
I just wanted a picture of those nice colours that the girl's bag and jacket. The guy's jacket and trousers matched those colours perfectly for me. As you may have noticed from other pictures I like the retro colour treatment. All colours are slightly desaturated, but I have pushed the vibrancy of the colours so that they don't look completly washed out.
As you may have noticed the updating has been poor the last week. This is because I have been busy. I have started a new job which is taking a lot of time. I will try to update more frequently from now on though.

Railings are hard objects, but this picture is very soft, except for the part of the railing that is in focus. I like how the lens I use can produce such softness in pictures and also how sharp it is. It is a lovely contrast.
Picture 45
There is something about anything silhuetted that I really like. This is the light tower on a lighthouse ship that is docked down by the quay where I live.
Picture 44
I was out by the river and the sun was shining. I wanted to capture the warm glow of sunlight that shone on the river.

Currently building a model so took a picture of the tools I use and the sprues with the unbuilt model on. I tried to arrange everything in a manner that would make it more interesting. Not just randomly putting things and taking a shot. Have I been successful? You tell me.

This is one of my favourite models, the MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam production type. I experimented with the lighting and placed one lightsource directly beneath the model and then another lightsource to light up the head and upper body. This has created nice moody lighting.

Picture 40
It was difficult to find something worthwhile to shot today. The weather was overcast and everything was looking drab and grey. So I turned to getting a shot of the handrail on the footbridge on the way to the university. The picture is abstract. But I like it.

Picture 39
Today was a lovely day. Went for a little walk along the river. On my way back I took a picture of these houses. They are student accomadation located in what now is known as the university quays. The buildings are quite nice and fun. There's a definite maritime feel about them, which goes well with their location by the quays. I like how this picture turned out. There is something surreal about the picture, especially the artificial look of the sky.

Picture 38
The first picture from England. I took a walk along side the river. The wind was blowing through the reeds. A very grey day. Most pictures turned out quite dull and with matted colours. I thought the reeds didn't suffer from this dullness.

Sitting slightly bored in the car waiting for my father I decided to take a few shots of car interior. Trying to take this shot proved a bit challening as the top half of the picture was very bright and the bottom half was dark. I've finally figured out how to use the AEL button so I took a meter reading in the light part, pressed the AEL button and then recomposed the shot. The shot definitely turned out more the way I was imagining it after using the AEL function.

A nice view of the river leading up to the castle. The building on the left is the old town hall. A beautiful building that later was home to an art museum. Nowadays it serves as a nursery, albeit temporarily. Hopefully it will find a better tenant in the future. This shot was taken during an overcast day. All the colours looked washed out and drab. I therefore converted the picture to mono. I struggle with shots taken during overcast conditions. I find it difficult to get a correct exposure.

I arrived early for work and thought I would use the time to take a few shots of the river as the sun was rising. the winter sky is a nice cool blue, but the warmth of the sun is slowly creeping upwards. This is what daybreak looks like.

Some people just make you smile and this woman makes me smile. Such a grumpy looking face. Very serious. Great character. I like how she looks slightly drab, but the world next to her is a contrast with vibrant colours. The focus on her eyes is spot on. I bet this lady is a lot of fun really.

I tried to get a picture which feels the way you feel about babies. I wanted soft colours, light and tones. I have tweaked the colours to get the effect I wanted. For me it was successful. What do you think?
I mostly rely on autofocus, but for this picture I went for manual focus. Always a good idea to practice those manual focus skills.
